Today disaster struck as it was sensationally decided to rid Bath of its city status writes Robin Peterson. In a meeting of anonymous important people, a unanimous decision was reached to take the action. A press conference was held in the City hall to announce formally the measure. Worse news was to follow however as before the press conference had even finished, another meeting of mystery important people in an un-named location had already decided to demote the town to village status! Back in what had become the village hall confusion reigned supreme in a scene reminiscent of a day at the stock exchange. One official source commented, "Without doubt the news is a disappointment."

Meanwhile, the fact that Bath City Football Club play in a village is appearing in trivia quizzes world wide. At least while Bath has its famous natural hot water spring, there will remain a reason to come to the village.
